FinnSTRONG
Finn was born on 1/2/15. When I was just 19 weeks pregnant with him we found out he had very complex heart disease. He is now three years old and just had his second open heart surgery at the Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia. He still has a long uncertain road as we are very dependent on technological advances but for now, he is a very happy toddler loving life! He has endured months and months of his life in the hospital and 14 procedures but he somehow smiles through it all while inspiring us every day.
EvelynSTRONG
EvelynStrong has MPS. MPS is a rare genetic disease effecting 1 in 250, 0000 people. There are less than 1,000 cases in the United States. There is no cure. Evelyn Mizer was diagnosed with MPS1 - Hurlers Disease at 9mths. She had brain surgery and a shunt was place for ongoing hydrocephelis. At 10mths, Evelyn, her sister Elliana, then 2 years, mom and dad moved to North Carolina to Duke Children's Hospital for the best care possible. There, Evelyn lived in complete isolation for many many months and under went a umbilical cord blood transplant from a perfect match donor. These new cells from the donated umbilical cord replaced her "bad cells". The cord blood transplant gave Evelyn life. However, with no cure she has the promise of many surgeries and orthopedic issues. This form of treatment she received is medically new. There is no telling what Evelyn's life expectancy is. Through small town fundraising, pray, hope, and faith it is propelling Evelyn and her family to fight this disease. In addition, her fight is helping to pathe the way for future medical procedures. Evelyn's family believes that small gestures such as prayer can help move big mountains in the fight for a cure and future medical growth for many. The Mighty Mizer's are back in their home state of New Jersey. They continue weekly post transplant and MPS1 related visits to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, in addition to home care nurses and infusions. They also will need to return to Duke Children's Hospital yearly for MPS1 speciality care. Yes, a long hard road yet they would not have it any other way. Evelyn and Elliana share a strong sisterhood bond like no other. The simple smiles, dancing and singing these two often share remind us all what is really important....the little things.
